London is a fabulous place to visit and is one of the world’s greatest cities - full of history, culture, millions of interesting people, lots of activities and places of interest - but London can be one of the most expensive cities in the world, as well. It is possible to find ways to make a London holiday more affordable, though, if you’re willing to do a bit of research and advance planning.
Hotels in London can range from very reasonable to very expensive, and a lot has to do with location. There are several districts near the center that offer reasonable accommodations, and here are a few of the best budget hotels located in these areas:
Bloomsbury District - Bloomsbury has a number of budget-priced hotels and many of them can be found on Argyle Street. Most have rooms at well under 100 pounds per night, often in the 50 - 60 pound range. The Excelsior Hotel is a good example with rooms around 60 pounds per night, with wireless internet included. The Excelsior is conveniently located near King’s Cross Station. Another budget hotel in Argyle Street is the Jesmond Dene Bed & Breakfast with single rooms starting at 35 pounds per night.
Westminster District - The Luna & Simone hotel in Belgrave Road offers low-priced basic singles at around 40 pounds per night and doubles for around 80 per night. The Wellington is another reasonably priced London hotel in a safe location in Vincent Square. Rooms at the Wellington start as low as 30 pounds per night.
Kensington/Chelsea - There are a number of budget
London hotels located in the Kensington/Earl’s Court/Chelsea area. The Green Court Hotel in Earl’s Court offers basic rooms for around 45 pounds per night and Hotel Kensington West in Matheson Road is good, clean hotel for around 70 per night. This part of London can be a bit sketchy at night, so use common sense and keep your eyes open when walking around.
There are a number of luxury
hotels in Mayfair that are reasonably priced, comparatively speaking. The Hilton London Metropole, for instance offers rooms for as low as 159 pounds per night for advance purchase and with Hilton’s Any Weekend Anywhere promotion, rooms are available for under 100 pounds per night, including buffet breakfast.
